Educational Philosophy

I believe that the goal of education is to assist each student in realizing their potential and help them understand how to live and work in the larger community. I believe a hands-on, theme or project-based curriculum is best because students learn most when they are engaged and are engaged most when they are trying to solve a problem that is meaningful to them.

Teaching demands excellent listening and organizational skills as well as enthusiasm, patience, courage and creativity.  In order to do this, a teacher needs to love the process of learning. An outstanding teacher describes goals, notes both progress and setbacks and adapts accordingly. Most importantly, an outstanding teacher builds community so that students can teach and learn from one another.
